Privacy policy
Last updated October 14, 2026
DatingHalo is made by Lurinth, Inc., a Delaware corporation ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the DatingHalo app collects, why, who can see it, and how to delete it. If anything here is unclear, email support@datinghalo.com.
Who can use DatingHalo
DatingHalo is for people 13 and older. Teens (13 to 17) use the app with extra protections: they can't make public vote links, and their location is only shared with friends they approved (see our terms). We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13: if someone enters a birthday under 13 at sign-up, no account is created and the birthday isn't sent to us. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it. Parents and guardians of teens can email support@datinghalo.com to ask about or delete their teen's account.
What we collect
Your account
- Email address and password (passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider; we never see them).
- First name, and optionally last name, username, city, phone number and a profile photo.
- Your birthday. It's private: nobody else can see it, not even your friends. We use it only to work out whether your account is a teen (13 to 17) or adult (18+) account, and to keep vote links 18+. It isn't used for ads, and our product analytics only record whether an account is a teen or adult account, never the birthday itself.
- Your privacy settings, such as whether people can find you by username, email or phone, and what posts automatically to your circle.
Your location
- Your precise location while the app is open, so your friends (people you accept, and members of circles you join) can see you on the map.
- Your location in the background only if you turn on Share location always in Settings. You can turn it off at any time there or in your phone's settings.
- We keep your latest location, not a history of everywhere you've been. Places you save (like home) and the start, end and venue of your dates are stored so date mode and the home-safe check-in work.
People you're dating
Your roster holds what you choose to add about people you're talking to: a name, age or birthday, state and ZIP code, notes, social handles, a phone number, photos, the statuses you log (like "he texted"), rankings, and polls you ask your friends to vote on. Only add information you're comfortable storing, and treat other people's information with care (see our terms).
Registry checks
When you run a registry check, we send the name, age or birthday, and location you enter to our public-records provider, which searches public sex-offender registries. We store the search and its result in your account so you can see it again. Each account can run up to 25 checks a day.
What you share with your circle
Messages, date check-ins (mood, note and optional photo), date recaps, reactions, votes, comments on posts and votes, screenshot drops (a screenshot of his messages plus your caption, shown to the friends you've accepted), daily-question answers, and messages in a "come get me" thread.
Circles, blocks and reports
The circles you create or join (name, members and invite code), the people you block, and the reports you file (what you reported, a reason and an optional note), which we keep so we can review them and act on them. Blocks and reports are never shown to the person they're about.
Date-or-dump links and circle join links
If you turn on a vote link for a poll, the share card you rendered (his photo, blurred unless you turn blur off; his first name and age only if you allow it), your first name, your question and the running totals are visible to anyone who opens the link, with no account, until you turn the link off or delete your account. Closing the vote stops new votes but does not take the page down. While the link is on, the card image is stored at a public address. Votes and comments left on the link are stored with a hashed network address and browser id so one person can't vote twice; only you see the comments, and you can hide any of them. A circle join link shows the circle's name and up to five members' first names to anyone who has it, until it expires (7 days) or someone in the circle makes a new one. If anyone in the circle is under 18, the link shows only the number of members, not their names.
Photos and camera
We only access photos you pick or take in the app. Apart from the date-or-dump share card described above, they're stored privately and shown through short-lived links to you and, where you share them, to your friends.
Device information
A push-notification token and your device platform (iOS or Android), so we can send you notifications you've allowed, and your notification preferences.
How we use it
- To run the app: your map, your roster, votes, date mode, check-ins, the home-safe check-in and safety alerts to your circle.
- To send notifications you've allowed, such as a friend starting a date or a home-safe reminder.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse (for example, limiting registry checks) and fix problems.
- To answer you when you contact support.
We don't sell your personal information, we don't share it for advertising, and the app has no third-party ads or advertising trackers.
Who can see your information
- Friends you accept, and everyone in a circle you join. Joining a circle through its link makes you friends with every current member, and anyone who later joins with that link becomes your friend too, unless you turn off Allow friend requests in Settings. Friends can see your live location, whether you're on a date, the things you post or allow to auto-post, and safety alerts you send. Leave a circle, remove a friend or block them to stop sharing with them.
- Anyone with a link you share. See "Date-or-dump links and circle join links" above.
- Our service providers, who process data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: hosting, database, file storage and sign-in.
- Expo, Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging: delivering notifications.
- Apple Maps and Google Maps: showing maps and turning coordinates into street addresses.
- Our public-records provider (Offenders.io): registry searches you run.
- When the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety, we may disclose information to authorities.
- If our company changes hands (merger, acquisition or sale), information may transfer, and this policy will still apply to it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, roster, photos, location, settings and the content tied to your account, including your comments, screenshot drops, blocks, reports, vote links and the votes left on them. Deleting a person from your roster deletes the polls and vote links about him. Copies can remain in encrypted backups for a short period before they roll off, and we keep anything we're legally required to keep.
Your choices and rights
- Location: turn off Share location always in Settings, or turn off location for DatingHalo in your phone's settings.
- Notifications: manage them in your phone's settings.
- Access, correction and deletion: edit your profile and roster in the app, or delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account. You can also email us; see Delete your account.
- Depending on where you live (for example California, Canada, the UK or the EU), you may have extra rights, such as asking for a copy of your data or objecting to some uses. Email support@datinghalo.com and we'll respond within the time the law requires. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited by per-user rules in our database, and photos are only reachable through short-lived signed links, except date-or-dump share cards while their link is on. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password that you don't use anywhere else.
Where data is processed
Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll let you know in the app or by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
